it doesn't sound like three.js is particularly excited to support this: mrdoob/three.js#29548 & mrdoob/three.js#29667

I am not aware of a web based viewer yet.
Actually I am exited that they are considering supporting it, although it might be challenging.

it seems like there needs to be some webgl raymarching?

can the emscripten version support volumetric? it doesn't look like it from a quick search 3MFConsortium/lib3mf_emscripten#1

Just learned about Metafolds3ds extension to three.js: https://github.com/Metafold3d/metafold-three.js

Support for Volumetric is included in lib3mf 2.4. The emscripten example uses the vcpkg version of lib3mf that will be updated soon. @vijaiaeroastro has some exciting extension to the bindings of the lib3mf in the works that will allow to access the api of the webassembly version directly from javascript.

ok great. i had a feeling that all of the pieces were there!

if there is a clear thought process on how to assemble these pieces into a simple webviewer for this new extension, i'm happy to try to contribute.

@rawwerks I could ping you once we have the emscripten port complete.

However, it is possible to have a generic API that renders 3mf's even without an emscripten port. Once our work is complete, we can bind it to the API.

To avoid double work though, it's best to wait till the emscripten port is complete. Can you shoot me an email and we can discuss details?

yeah i was thinking about trying to just do some kind of server-version of gladius...the problem is that then all of the gpu work is on the server side.

In the long term, it would be more work for everyone. It's best to keep things 100% client side.

my general idea is that this new extension needs the equivalent of https://modelviewer.dev/ or https://gltf.report/, but for .3mf

doesn't need a full CAD UI or any editing, just needs to be able to validate/read/display .3mf with this new extension, and needs to work in modern browsers
