When reviewing traces in observability, users often want to test variations of a prompt that generated a specific span. Currently, they must manually copy the prompt, configuration, and inputs from the span into the playground. This workflow is tedious and error-prone.
Proposed Solution
We are adding a button in observability to open any chat span directly in the playground. This will create a stateless playground session pre-filled with:
The exact prompt used in that span
The model configuration and parameters
The input messages from that trace
Any additional context needed to reproduce the interaction
Users can then immediately iterate on the prompt or test variations without manual setup. The playground session will be stateless, meaning it creates a temporary workspace for experimentation without affecting saved prompts.
