Convert existing chest

I am not sure if I missed that.
Is there a way to simply convert an exististing chest to a MainChest,
or to a RelatedChest, moving the content to the MainChest?

Actually no, there is currently no way to convert existing minecraft chests into syncchests.

But thats a good feature to add. Thank you.

How is connecting (placing next to each other, so they become a large one) a SyncChest with an existing chest handled?

Here my findings and thoughts (sync chest means related chest):

• I connected a main chest to a filled normal chest, that worked. (became a large chest, but syncing)

• If I place a normal chest next to a sync chest that works too (It does nothing)

  • Only removing the normal chest prints an error

  An error occurred while attempting to remove this chest!
  

  still the chest gets removed.

• If I remove a sync or main chest I get a normal chest in my inventory.

  • is that intended? You can't relocate them.
    • drop a SyncChest instead of a normal one

• Adding a sync chest next to an existing chest deletes the contents

  • it should be transfer items to the main chest
    • when full: drop them on the ground

• placing a new sync chest next to an unconnected main chest becomes a big MainChest

• placing a new main chest next to an unconnected sync chest becomes a big MainChest

  • still the magic wand can separate them
    • screen shot left: sync chest | right: main chest
    • the wand can't link them by clicking
    • i can link them with console
    • still accessible, nothing breaks. 👍
    • i also can link it with another main chest, the chest just ignores that.
  • notify the user that that a sync chest next to a main chest is useless/not a good idea?
    • put the chest back to the inventory?

• I tried getting status of a normal chest with the wand. Nothing happened. Took me a while to figure out it was a normal chest.

  • add a "This is a normal chest" status?

Combining normal chests with chests from SyncChest was never intended and is therefore not implemented. That basically means it's handled by minecraft.

• Yes it does. If I get the chest convert working I will transfer the content to the main chest and drop the things that do not fit.

• Placing related and main chests together should not be allowed -> bug

Also after restoring an old world backup, I realised it displayed still the amount of sync chest of the now deleted world.

This kinda broke that game safe, as I am not able to reset the data in a graceful way. Deleting the contents of the ./plugins/SyncChest/Chests/ folder results in chests being unremovable.
How can I remove that block? For my current safe game, an ugly hack would be sufficient too

Can you add a note somewhere, that ./plugins/SyncChest/Chests/ should be included in backups?

you can disable syncchest completely in the config file. After that, you can remove blocks and files.

If you want a double chest you need two mainchests

• Actually I like that you can use a "cheap" normal chest, to just expand storage capacity.

  • A complete different approach would be to have a crafting recipe for the chests. Something involving a normal chest, maybe some redstone, gold.

A crafting recipe would be awesome, since the plugin is intended for survival.
