Automate/describe testing to help with contributing

Testing is a bit difficult because of the api-keys and emails involved. 
I have a testing plan set up, but this just sends a bunch of emails that I then check in my mailbox.

I want to see about unit testing and at least create a contributing guide that explains how you can do testing.
