In the new documentation you convert the from the source to a mkv, which mean you a technically loosing more data to compression.
It might be better to output a png sequences to keep the most details possible at a resonable storage size, as it is possible to put a image sequence into TVEA

That's something I struggled with early on. I wanted to keep the best source from start to finish.

In the end -- we're doing a lot to the video and I had to look at the final output. It my tests, I didn't notice a quality difference in the end product (post VEAI). With that said, I didn't process every episode -- there are just too many! That is why I tried to split the project in a way that someone could tweak an episode if they found different settings worked better for different episodes.

It's interesting how best source doesn't always mean best output, been playing around with that myself

I learned something new yesterday -- Topas Video Enhance AI can use .AVS files as source now! The only problem is the that everything in avisynth needs to be 64bit, and there are some 32bit plugins in the mix.

Also found out recently that if you add cpu=4 argument to MPEG2Source it really cuts down on the compression blocks, it may "remove detail" but I find that the compression blocks are more of an issue. Also it's probably worth looking into some rainbowing filter, a combination of Decross, Bifrost and SmartSSIQ worked surprisingly well. And you could always add some anti aliasing, but I don't think it does much at this resolution

It's related to what you mentioned above -- about using PNG instead of creating an MKV. Since VEAI can consume the AVS script as video, there is no need to transcode it to anything. It can take the video right from Avisynth.

I've been playing around with a whole new process and I've been able to get the 64bit versions of all of the plugins (except one, but I've found a replacement), and VEAI opens it up just find and does its thing....
