unable to knit, unrelated to code block

After trying to knit multiple times, I found I needed to install Xquartz, but when I tried to add it to my packages I got this error in the console:

> install.packages("/Applications/Utilities/XQuartz.app", repos = NULL)
Error in install.packages : type == "both" cannot be used with 'repos = NULL'

but I am no longer receiving the error in regards to needing to install it when I knit

I am now receiving the below error when I attempt to knit, this is blocking me from building a website and confirming new tabs are available:

Error in .External2(C_dataviewer, x, title) : unable to start data viewer
Calls: ... withCallingHandlers -> withVisible -> eval -> eval -> View

Also, my viewer has never worked.

If this is happening on your laptop and you can bring it in for today's class, then I should be able to help troubleshoot.
