NUTIFY using a serial APC UPS through a USB to serial adapter

I am a newbie here but love to tinker, currently I am trying to get NUTIFY to recognize a APC SU700NET UPS through a USB to serial adapter, I know I can communicate with the UPS through the adapter using SCREEN, but I have to send a capitol "Y" to the UPS to switch the UPS into SMART mode, so at this point I am at a loss on how to put all this together to get NUTIFY to add the UPS and have it operate like the USB UPS's I already have running in my home lab.
