GL Widget only works on some systems

Hello:

The branch Gremlin3 witch only show a GL triangle seems to not work on all systems

Working system :

Ubuntu 17.10
GTK: v3.22.25

Not working system

 Debian Stretch
 GTK: v3.22.11

Probably related, the Gtk.GLArea demo does not work on Debian 9 with Gtk v3.22.11. The GL area does not render and is just grey. It would be interesting to have a list of systems and the Gtk version on which the demo does work.

To install the Gtk3 demos say:
sudo apt-get install gtk-3-examples

To run the GLArea demo say:
gtk3-demo --run glarea

GLArea does not render

With the demo I get the same problem like I get in hazzy.
