I took a stab at sketching a few potential ideas for visualizing a pathway. There's something like this first option which could be more linear:

I am still sketching, but leaning towards the more linear visualization (which shows linear and then upon clicking of the skills opens up/branches out to show more skills.... and potential pathways).
