Wayland brightness problem

I can not change the brightness in any Linux distribution running the wayland window system.
How can I change it?

I've pushed an internal GLSL gamma shader to the leidev24 branch, don't know if that resolves it on wayland (my linuxes are debians). I know the old way of sending video drivers new color ramps to do gamma is very discouraged these days and linux has had regressions about that before.
