Feature Request: Handle 504 errors gracefully

I personally have only run into this once (but with three large tasks in a row), but I have seen it a number of times with user reports.

I think that this particular error should be handled gracefully with retry attempts to ensure that the user is able to fetch their data easily in spite of transient network problems that may result in the 504.
