What's the best way to "Cancel" an Action Plan Task so that the next dependent Task is not created?

For Example, if I have these Tasks in an Action Plan, and completion of each one triggers the next:

1. Talk to Realtor
2. Prep house for sale
3. List house for sale on MLS

If the user wants to mark #2 as cancelled becuase the homeowner decided not to sell. How do we prevent #3 task from being created?

Do we need to create a new vesion of the 'Canceled' status that is not considered "Closed"?
