Failed to install 'unknown package' from GitHub

Hi Sabhrina,

Could it be you’re using a personal access token for GitHub? I’ve experienced similar issues with devtools where it would use my personal access token for a public repo which resulted in the same error you get. Perhaps you can disable the PAT and then try again?

I was having a personal access token for another GitHub repo and I doubt it was the one causing it. I have deleted it as it has been expired, but I still cannot install the R package. I have no PATs now.

It still give me that exact same message.

Hi Sabhrina,

I think it is rather devtools in R which stores some personal access token that needs to be invalidated. So perhaps you could try that? At least that was the problem I was experiencing when I received the same error message as you.

Hi Janek,

I can now install fastdfe following this: r-lib/remotes#797

So apparently it is not only personal access token but just having my github account stored in gitcreds::gitcreds_get() makes the problem. I did gitcreds::gitcreds_delete() and then remotes::install_github("Sendrowski/fastDFE") can install just fine. Weird as this has never happened before when I try install things using devtools/remote!

Hi Sabhrina,

It’s only a simple R wrapper so I’m not sure if it would be acceptable as a CRAN package. I’m pretty sure it’s got to do something with how devtools is configured since I started experiencing the same problem when switching to SSH authentication with GitHub. I can take a closer look tomorrow.
