Ability to have branches checked out from origin added to config

Currently, if you check out a branch (feature/release/hotfix) from origin, that you didn't create, or created on a different machine, the information about it's base branch is not written in to config (obviously). Would like to be able to do this. That would mean separating this config data out of workspace settings into it's own config file that could then be checked in.
