I’m Shruti Nikam, a passionate final-year B.Tech Electronics and Telecommunication student, and I’m highly motivated to contribute to this impactful open-source initiative under C4GT. The project’s mission of building a transparent, community-driven tool to capture real user engagement on social media deeply resonates with me.
Project: Open-Source Social Media Data Donation Tool
This project aims to build a browser extension that empowers users to voluntarily donate anonymized interaction data from social media platforms. It bridges the gap between aggregate platform analytics and user-level engagement, helping researchers, developers, and policymakers understand the real impact of content — including AI-generated content — in digital ecosystems.
My Skills:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript (Frontend & UI logic)
manifest.json and WebExtension API familiarity
Python (for backend processing, if needed)
Git & GitHub for collaboration
JSON handling & basic data structures
Contributions I Can Make:
Improve README.md for better onboarding
Create or refine manifest.json and popup.html
Design simple popup UI with checkbox for user consent
Implement permission checks and anonymized data capture
Help in documentation and guides for future contributors
Add gamification ideas if needed (like basic leaderboard UI)
Availability:
I'm available for 10–15 hours per week and committed to consistent contributions throughout Sprint 3.
Why I'm Interested
This project aligns with my academic background and personal interest in privacy-preserving AI systems, ethical data collection, and user empowerment. I’m excited to learn from the mentors and collaborate with other contributors while delivering meaningful code.
