Is your feature request related to a problem?

The issue is with the prime tower when I want to mix different type of filaments, like PLA + PETG.

Scenario:

  • Snapmaker U1 printer with Snapmaker Orca
  • I want to use PETG for the model and PLA for all the supports » bed adhesion » easy to remove the support from the final product
  • PLA is selected for raft base and interface » all the supports will be printed with PLA
Image
  • After the slice, the prime tower is mixed with all the materials » bed adhesion.
  • I can set only the material of the wall of the prime tower, but inside the filaments will be mixed:

The result: in the prime tower the layers will be built layer by layer » layers can separate because there is no proper adhesion. Of course, because I do not want any adhesion, this is the whole point.

The print can fail and the tower could en up like this (real picture taken by me):
Image

Notice that I used only 2 different materials in this example but I could have used up to 4 (or as many as I want) different ones » the result would be that prime tower would have 4 different material mixed.

Which printers will be beneficial to this feature?

All

Describe the solution you'd like

Add "Prime tower built mode" to Prime Tower settings or similar.

{ primeTowerBuildMode: 'layer-by-layer' | 'side-by-side' }
It could be a dropdown with the default value with 'layer-by-layer'.

Layer by layer
This is the current behavior. The used materials will be mixed in the prime tower as the layers comes.

Side by side
In this mode the materials in the prime tower should be printed next to each other.

I just created an example with Excalidraw how should it look like in above perspective:
