Description
Hi guys!
This is my first report on Github.
Versions:
- TYPO3 12.4.37
- fal_securedownload 5.0.7
Problem: When a mp4 file is located in a secure folder and uses the usual browser video player, than I can't navigate within the video (e.g. skip to the middle of the video). I can only start the video from the beginning and watching it.
The files are delivered via a controller and essentially ‘streamed,’ as there is no browser access to the actual file (regardless of whether it is an mp4 or pdf). fal_securedownloads attempts to replicate the request header as realistically as possible so that the browser is tricked into thinking it is accessing a file natively.
Unfortunately, the request header is not accurate enough for Chrome. In the Network tab of the Chrome Dev Tools, you can also see that clicking on the timeline of the unprotected video sends a 206 request to the server (which the browser only does if it ‘believes’ it is content that can be delivered partially). With protected videos, nothing happens at all; Chrome does not send a request when you want to change the video position. Firefox is simply a little more trusting in this regard.
