Possibly not all keypresses get to underlying terminal

Try using setting a keyboard shortcut with tcc-le (the free 4nt)

Then set a keyboard alias
alias @@alt-d=dir

In the normal console alt+d will execute dir, in pyconsole_wx nothing happens
