Possibility to cut parts of the target subdirectory tree

I see that the vendor sources are stored under `vendor/github.com/brettlangdon/forge` (if I retake from the example).
The related source code is:

dir="$prefix/$(echo "$repository" | sed -E 's/^[a-zA-Z]+((:\/\/)|@)//' | sed 's/:/\//' | sed -E 's/\.git$//')"
```

Would it be possible to inhibate or control it to obtain something shorter like (as will):
`vendor/forge`
?
