trouble installing COSItools on new mac

When trying to install COSItools I get the following error: Error 2: Something went wrong while compiling ROOT!
I have tried different versions of root and have tried to google the error message, but have not been able to solve the problem. Any suggestions are useful!

Which Xcode version are you using?

I installed it recently, it is version 16.3, which I see there is an open issue with that version.

Correct, but if you look into the attached log file, your error is already a step before that.
You have a make error.
What's your make versions:

cmake --version

cmake is version 4.0.0

ROOT just did several updates. Can you try the latest version:
bash setup.sh --root=v6-34-00-patches

After running that command, the same error occurs, and the VDT-configure files are the same. Any other suggestions?

how did you install cmake 4.0?
It seems that is too new to be recognized.

I had help trying to install COSItools a few days ago, someone else installed cmake and I am not exactly sure how. I think downloading the installer from the website?

if you run the COSItools setup script it would install it either via brew or macports, depending on what you are using.

Anyway, you need the latest 3.x version of make not 4.0

I have continued to trouble shoot, I uninstalled cmake and attempted to install it with the COSItools set up script, it prompted me to run brew install cmake cmake. After running that command, I checked the version and it is 4.0.0.
I then attempted to install cmake version 3.31.6 both with brew and through github, but have been unsuccessful. Do you know a command to download a specific version of cmake?

Was there an answer about the cmake version? Is the root installation still incompatible with 4.x?

Geant4 is not installing with cmake 4.x. Thus you have to downgrade to 3.x. brew does not allow this, thus I switched to port.

Macports installed cmake 3.31.7, so that is good. It is failing to build git for some reason.

Actually, the reason is that the mirror returns a 404:

I'm looking for how to make macports look somewhere else for the file. Anyone know how to do that?
