Feature Request: Official flatpak support for Xiphos on flathub

There is a Flatpak package for Xiphos on Flathub, but it is not officially maintained or supported by Crosswire. It would be good to see an official support because it would ensure another way of using and a more easy crosscompatibility between Linux platforms.

I'm working on getting my relatives to use this on their Linux machines I set up for them, and an official Flatpak would make it so they don't have to use a terminal which is ideal for elderly people. Until then, I'll have to remote desktop into their computer and do it for them.

Why do you need a terminal? Xiphos can be installed graphically by any graphical software installation tool. (Ubuntu-software, gnome-software, synaptic, discover...)
For ubuntu I maintain a ppa with the last version up to date.

It's a Linux Mint system, and according to the instructions on the website you have to install the PPA. This is sort of the main issue I guess, and while you can do this in the Software Center or any other app store application, it's still not ideal for the technologically challenged.

Flatpak would just be an easier experience for lots of users in my opinion. But I also understand that most people installing this software on a Linux machine would be able to figure out how to do this easily. Unfortunately my relatives are getting frustrated with the situation because I was supposed to install this for them and I forgot to so now I'm trying yo guide them on how to do this. I'm not in any way trying to say this is somehow the fault of the developers of this app, I'm just pointing out a potential situation where a Flatpak would be super useful. They could just go to the app store on any distro and install it in a click.

There is probably some sort of work involved to do this, and I just wanna make it clear that I do not expect you to upload a Flatpak just for me, just wanted to pass along my input. I appreciate everyone who works on this project! I'm glad to be switching my relatives off an outdated proprietary program for their church stuff, to something open-source and actively maintained.

I think you've misunderstood me. The ppa is not mandatory. It's only useful if you want to have the latest version on an older version of Ubuntu (on Ubuntu 25.04 it's already the last version). Otherwise what you say:

Is valid for any format, flatpack, snap or deb. It doesn't matter if you have a flatpack. In the software library, you'll see both versions anyway (flatpak or deb or snap). And frankly, there's nothing easier about flatpak than deb. The classic version (deb) needs no permission to run, and access to the .sword folder is much smoother.
A flatpak would be relevant if developers released a new version every 6 months, but as you can see, there aren't many volunteers.
Anyway, congratulations on your migration to linux and xiphos. You won't be disappointed.

I agree, I'm just stupid and didn't notice the .deb package in the Software Center since I don't use Linux Mint myself I was just assuming you had to use the PPA as the website download instructions didn't mention a .deb package. Perhaps adding that to the installation page would be a good idea?
