I lost track of that matrix dialog, and anyways issue is better here: there is an idea to sun set this effort. And if I get it correctly, I think we have a more general solution

• use https://github.com/git-annex-remote-rclone/git-annex-remote-rclone/ for git-annex remote
• use datalad-next
• use some magical lines/commands to achieve the goal

Annex's git remote helper seems close to providing this functionality, although I do like the idea of a single zip file for all git objects, like this project implements. It would be even cooler if this was incorporated into RIA's. Imagine a folder structure with three files per dataset: a zip file for the annex, a refs file, and a zip file for git objects. How incredibly cool!
