httpx.WriteError with very long urls

httpx version: 0.23.3
httpcore version: 0.16.3
python 3.11

I encountered this issue while doing some unit testing. Here is a minimal example (same issue with the async version)

from httpx import Client

with Client(timeout=None) as client:
    params = {"foo": "foo" * 5555555}
    response = client.get("http://example.com", params=params)
    assert response.status_code in [200, 414]

I get the following error:
