Square brackets in search cause ISE

Using a string with square brackets like
[proposal] plan
causes e500: Internal Server Error
and a logout of my profile
Tested with multiple other strings and it seems that it's the square brackets that cause the issue.

Logout is not true for me, but yes this ends in a 500
