Rather than using fieldVals, look up possible values in the corpus (because not all languages, let alone all corpora, use all possible values, especially when it comes to morphological features).

Also this would in theory make it possible to generalize variables to open classes, e.g. lemmas (but that would definitely be subject to combinatorial explosion).
