I would expect internet routers being the first use case: Users want to access the web-based configuration interface of their internet router via HTTPS - because the browsers show warnings when they see password fields on non-https pages.

And no, it isn't a full solution for the manufacturer of a router to go the Plex route of operating a dynamic DNS service for its customers and acting as a CA reseller. Doing so would encourage planned obsolescence and e-waste when the manufacturer ends dynamic DNS and CA reselling service for each router that day the router's warranty expires. It'd also put a bit of a burden on routers that run on a Raspberry Pi or similar single-board computer with the modem on one end and a switch/AP on the other.
