Grub rotate to upstream

With growing amount of devices that have native portrait screens fitted in landscape orientation (GPDs, Lenovo Legion GO's, Chuiwi's, SteamDeck, Framework, etc.) it may be high time to have native grub rotate feature to correctly display GRUB menu in landscape on such screens.

Just use distribution that uses systemd-boot instead of GRUB or contact your distribution to switch to systemd-boot.
Systemd-boot supports landscape orientation. Spamming on the issue tracker won't help anyone and just get the issue locked.

That should be a candidate to Bureau International des Poids et Mesures as most linuxy answer ever :)

But thanks for suggesting, system-boot seems to be way more straightforward than GRUB and it is already supported by my distribution. Time to ditch GRUB I guess, a long overdue act.

Thanks everyone. This feature has been previously submitted to the GRUB dev mailing list but did not receive a response. I plan on improving the documentation and resubmitting. However, since GRUB is currently in a code freeze for the 2.14 release, this will have to wait until after the 2.14 release in November 2025. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. Hopefully we'll see this feature upstreamed in the next GRUB release!

well @rangelovd that was a colossal waste of time resizing partitions, reinstalling OSes, recreating esps to accommodate for systemd-boot which requires much more free space on esp to host all the kernels, only to find out that it actually DOES NOT support framebuffer rotation as per systemd/systemd#30120 and this NixOS/nixpkgs#332239 only enables mode3 which does work on a Steamdeck, but does not work on anything else (i.e. Lenovo or GPD or Chuwi or Surface).

systemd-boot is even worse than grub, as grub at least supports multiple ESPs out of the box, and lacking the rotation feature, automatic kernel detection, signed secure boot (without jumping through hooks) and no legacy boot there is no reason a sane person has to use systemd-boot over refind or even grub
