Journal/archive - how is it updated

Was just browsing around after entering a bunch of historical reads and rereads, and was curious my 2023 is missing.

Should have been a few re-reads there. Are they counted in the journal?

Your journal is simply a view into your progress_logs db table. So, depending on how you logged reads/back filled historical reads, it may or may not show. Since I saw you entered a ticket about #351 - did you write your own queries for the historical backfill?

The normal flow is that, when you move a book from Want To Read to Read, it will automatically creates two progress logs so that they have continuity with the journal:

1. One for your started date at 0%
2. One for you completed_date at 100%

Therefore, you should see them in the journal view, even re-reads, since those are simply new progress logs against a new reading_sessions entry for that book. I would double-check your "Reading History" for a book (on the /books/:id page) and ensure that those are accurate.

If you want me to take a look, feel free to pass along your tome.db. Especially since we're pre-1.0.0 and, frankly, I haven't experimented with re-reads beyond the original implementation and local dev, it's possible that there are bugs.

Here;s a db. he reread entries were added via the ui. i wasn't quite sure how to do it, so 'd hit start re-read then add the dates.
Christian jacq has some entires in 2023 for a reread. And the foundation series.

Oh related, if you delete a reading session say number 3 when there are 4, the 4th one still calls itself #4.
Eg (Foundation and Earth from my db)

Or, did you move it back to "Want to Read" and then back to "Read" again?

I think I had just been clicking on read. As it makes a new section then updating the dates

I suspect this is part of the problem. Currently, started_date and completed_date are actually separated from the actual progress_logs table entries. So, if these progress logs were backfilled for more recent days, and you changed the start / completed date.

To confirm, can you click on the "Progress Logs" section and send me a screenshot of what those actual dates are:

And to confirm, from that screen shot, I deleted that session. And did it again as "start re-reading" update start date and then set progress to 100 with end date, and I see 2023 in the journal as well.

BTW - when you delete a session with no progress logs, there is an error "failed to delete session". But if you refresh it's gone.
