I am evaluating whether I can use Matter.js as a Matter Controller. The MATTER_COMPATIBILITY.md states that Matter.js currently does not support some features, in particular BDX/OTA and ICD. Can you clarify how exactly the lack of these two features affects a Matter Controller?

Yes, missing OTA and BDX basically means no software update, BUT both is currently in finalization and will be part of the 0.16 planned to come in december 2015 ... so thats "forseeable to be fixed" :-) Then we will have full OTA support in the controller. ICD means "Intermittently Connected Device" and so means mostly battery driven devices that are not that often online and optimizes the behavior and battery drain. But matter,js is basically already doing a good job, so it is not a real big issue, but will bring more optimized flows for such devices. This topic is "next-ish" on the roadmap too (Q1/Q2 2026 i guess, no promises). Unless someone contributes before that :-) |

And yes BDX is deep protocol level Matter topic and also the complete OTA process is very matter specific. Sure it could be customly implemented but we are also happy about contributions :-) But as written above for this topic thats "too late" because near to done.
