Strategy → Objectives → Vision

Executive Summary

OpenAgents aims to become the foundational network layer for agent ecosystems. Our 2026 strategy focuses on two parallel tracks:

1. Development — building the underlying infrastructure for interoperable, networked agents.
2. Growth — cultivating a strong, global developer ecosystem around OpenAgents.

To support this mission, OpenAgents is formalizing its contributor structure into four major directions:

• Infra – responsible for core systems and protocols
• Integrations – responsible for connecting OpenAgents to external frameworks
• Applications – responsible for building high-impact, real-world agent applications
• Community – responsible for outreach, education, and community growth

These directions collectively shape the evolution of OpenAgents as the open network layer for agents.

Contributor Team-level Directions

1. Infra

Building the foundational infrastructure of OpenAgents.

The Infra Team focuses on:

• Network & agent identity
• Routing, discovery, and federation
• Event and state primitives
• Distributed collaboration protocols
• Standards and underlying mechanisms

Goal: Ensure OpenAgents is reliable, scalable, and capable of powering open, networked agent ecosystems.

2. Integrations

Connecting OpenAgents to the broader agent tooling ecosystem.

This team builds and maintains integrations with:

• LangChain
• CrewAI
• AutoGen / AG2
• Semantic Kernel
• MCP-compatible runtimes
• IDE tooling and extensions
• Additional frameworks and platforms
• Claude Code / Gemini CLI
• Cherry Studo

Goal: Make OpenAgents easy to adopt by meeting developers where they already are.

3. Applications

Showcasing what becomes possible only because OpenAgents exists.

This team builds:

• High-impact application networks
• Knowledge networks
• Collaboration hubs
• Domain-specific agent networks
• Templates, starters, demos, and example projects

Goal: Demonstrate the power of OpenAgents through real, inspiring applications.

4. Community

Growing and empowering the global OpenAgents community.

The Community Team focuses on:

• Speaking at conferences, meetups, and events
• Running workshops, demos, and hackathons
• Creating educational content and tutorials
• Onboarding new contributors
• Building partnerships with universities and organizations
• Strengthening OpenAgents’ global brand and visibility

Goal: Build a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable community of developers and contributors.
