Topic of the session
The problem of calculating geometric error in 3D Tiles, why the commonly recommended approximations don't work, and how we now calculate geometric error for tilesets to ensure heterogenous datasets can be rendered perfectly together.
We'll also be open-sourcing the tool we built (Tessera) so that others can benefit from our solution!
Type of the session
- Collaborate
- Workshop
- Talk
Estimated duration of the session
~30mins including time for any questions
Date and Time of the session
Up to scheduling, happy to speak whenever, unsure if this is more day 1 or 2 as it's kinda half new framework, half application.
Level
- Beginner
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Pre-requisite knowledge
Some basic knowledge of 3D tiles may help, but aiming to have enough visual examples that none should be required.
Describe the session
Same as topic above:
- What does geometric error represent and why do we need it?
- What are the recommendations for doing so, and why didn't they work for us?
- How we solved the problem, and a side-by-side of the rendered results.
- Links to repo for Open-source announcement 🎉
