What is the current maintenance status of Orbit.js?

Open-source maintainership is thankless, so please don't take this as a nag or a beg. Just curious what the current maintenance status is, and if there is any roadmap for the future of the package.

I'm working on modernizing some things currently. I think the functionality is pretty solid already though. Is there anything that you all would like to see implemented?

Well, remote data sync would make local-first apps find everything they need in Orbit.js - this is the missing link. I understand why it's not a core feature and I prefer it this way, but maybe some 3rd-party packages could provide some opinionated examples of how it would work. This is actually the first step I need to make towards my app, if I ever get the time to get it started anyway.

So, as a very rough sketch, a backend solution could connect to some db (postgres, mongodb, whatever) and provide a couple of endpoints:

• one that returns a full data snapshot or the set of changes since a timestamp if provided
• an SSE endpoint (server-sent events) that informs connected clients of any changes (what entity type, even ids and optionally deltas)

Then a client package can seed a local database via the first endpoint on application startup, then maintain an SSE connection that would instruct it to fetch the relevant records on a JSON-API Orbit.js source. The coordinator would just do the rest of the magic. Some simple conflict management system could be here as well.

I am curious as to what people are generally using to bring any form of automated remote data sync (either real-time or whatever) to Orbit.js, what are you guys using @RobbieTheWagner @dgeb ?

Pretty much any LFA basically, it wouldn't be tied to some app data shape. For example a few years ago I built an expense tracker using Orbit.js, but the sync was very hacky. I would have liked to find some examples or recipes, even if not generically applicable.
