I started this whole "project" in 2019 with a single goal: be able to drive my brand-new 2019 Chevy Bolt EV via remote control in a JC Penney parking lot, just like the DeLorean in Back-To-The-Future. Because it had auto-lane-keep assist, I knew there must be a way I could control it... Little did I know such ideas were bannable topics. Little did and little do.
Thank you to everyone who helped get this project to the point where I am no longer necessary -- because it was killing me. Literally and figuratively. Or rather, I was letting it do so.
I'm grateful to every person I've interacted with - I consider myself blessed to have met and worked with such a diverse and talented group of people. I regret to have failed so many, and this is just an acknowledgement of reality.
I will not be able to continue working on openpilot. The reins are in more-than capable hands -- Eric and others deserve the credit for anything good to have happened in the last year.
I don't expect to be able to address everyone's outstanding needs. I don't really have a good way of cataloging them - discord is a terrible collaboration platform lol.
I'm not disappearing from the earth, but I have become very concerned about being so open, in a society unilaterally obsessed with hate, unaccepting of criticism or dissent; incapable of self-reflection. It's not safe, that's all.
Thanks again to everyone for your help - users, collaborators, donors, compassionate shoulders - for what successes have been there's a whole bunch of amazing people who made it possible.
Stay safe out there!
