Automatically update progress over time

Currently, a user's progress is only updated when their page is visited. This means that the scoreboard won't be updated for a user's progress until they visit their own personal page.

I'm starting to prefer the idea of updating the scoreboard as it's visited if I hadn't been updated for a certain amount of time.
