unetbootin support broken

unetbootin produces a broken thumb drive.
The second method using "dd" works, but partition type is "17 Hidden HPFS/NTFS" which might be wrong.

The same here with usb2 and usb3 but I can dd to sd card, boot and install:

however mount the usb key /mnt/my-pentoo-usb

qt4-wine , and others can be of use for any libraries .net crapola., Run setup with wine 32 or 64 dosen't mater.

once installed you can make Linux sticks in a pretty brain-dead fashion , including adding persistence support if sticks big enough. Gentoo , sabayon etc, some will even pull down the latest iso with wget for you. it will detect pentoo as Gentoo , and away it goes.
long as you have admin rights and or sudo , and admin in wine it will , act as if your on windows,
format fat32 /mnt/my-pentoo-usb , unpack UEFI /regular pentoo iso into it , make boot-able ...

"broken thumb drive" isn't descript enough to be useful. if you used any unetbootin other than the one in pentoo it's not supported. closing ticket with no details, feel free to reopen if it doesn't work with the unetbootin from pentoo.

http://www.linuxliveusb.com if you have a windows box or via Wine etc. Pentoo will detect as Gentoo.
fat32 , typically D: or E etc will be seen in Gentoo/pentoo. under wine also once the drives is mounted.
ie /mnt/my-pentoo stick ,

unetbootin (windows) , rufus (windows) https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ (windows Akin to DD ISO to USB handy to clone usb keys for the "GD" Wyse terminals I used to have to maintain also.
frequent use of USB keys to fix the 250+ wyse terminals would ruin them quick. )

however the easiest is linuxliveusb , and makmo tool will allow you to save to another usb key and copy them back to pentoo usb. ie modules for loaded into live (if still supported) as the usb contains a regular fat32 fs etc. and one can add a few misc tools scripts etc it unpacks and sets the bootloader for the fat = pentoo Rufus , will also do much the same , however supports hybrid MBR/GPT legacy/UEFI

many a tool to "skin" a usb for windows or Linux boot from usb key , and on either os.
your mileage may very , and some tools are better for some tasks than others , ie some Linux distros work better with some USB creators than others. try and see , also depends on tastes.

I often dual-boot , ie work or grad classwork , forced to use windows at work , (like MMO's and slaying lots of mobs) then ssh or etc into Linux cloud... , , so thus I can vouch for Rufus or LILI aka linuxliveusb
for use of Pentoo Outside a vm (Vmware , often have I Installed Sabayon Linux and added Pentoo Overlay with layman. (my early ASUS ROG 2011 laptop has some irritating flakey uefi ) however one of my older desktops installed fine via usb before it finally bit the dust... using either tool.
LILI will make Sabayon, Gentoo, and Pentoo Images that work , Period. rufus Often the same,.. and with UEFI support also. Rufus builds Windows 10 , and many Linux distros to USB on standard fat32 usb

@ostree give one of them a go , see what you get. if the handle breaks on the screwdriver , try another tool in the tool box. I try not to get to bound to one tool because if it stats to suck/or its busted ... try a different tool...

as far as persistence , that's a touch Less Easier. ok make that wildly convoluted and one could corrupt (most likely will) the squashfs , but you'd have to repack it in Read-write mode with sync etc.
