Feature request: Dynamic switching of different DNS servers

Currently one DNS server can be enabled at any given time with the options to enable/disable it for specific Wifis and/or Cellular.

However, what is not possible is to use one DNS server for Cellular/Public Wifis and a different one for a certain Wifi and to switch dynamically between them depending on which network one is connected to. This can be useful, if one wants to use the Wifi DNS server at home where one might have a local DNS server running (e.g. pihole, Adguard Home) and an online DNS server when on the road (e.g. NextDNS). Thus minimizing resolver latencies.

This Feature request is to support dynamic DNS switching between different DNS servers when one connects to a certain Wifi (local DNS) and Cellular/Public Wifi (online DNS).

In the upcoming version 1.9.5 (It may release in recent days, waiting for review) , the URL scheme feature will be implemented. You can use it together with iOS Shortcuts automation. (connected or disconnected to selected wifi/cellelur)

Supports custom URL schemes, allowing other apps, shortcuts, or browsers to launch the app and automatically apply a specific DNS configuration.
Full example: dnsapp://switch?config=google-DOH&enableOnWifi=true&enableOnCellular=false
example: dnsapp://switch?config=google-DOH

config is required parameter. to config name
enableOnWifi, enableOnCellular are optional parameter, default is true/enable;

Schemes:
• DNS Security Pro: dnssecuritypro://
• DNS Security: dnssecurity://
• Both DNS Security versions: dnsapp://

Tested on iOS 18.5 with DNS Security Pro 1.9.5, App Built 61.

Created an iOS shortcut that opens the example URL (dnsapp://switch?config=google-DOH&enableOnWifi=true&enableOnCellular=false) when Wifi has connected.
When the shortcut is executed, DNS Security Pro is automatically opened, but the config does not switch. Not matter what i tried, the active DNS config always stays the same. "google-DOH" was present as an available config in the list.

As a side note, DNS Security Pro is always opening when the shortcut runs. I assume making the DNS config switch silently in the background without DNS Security Pro being opened is not possible?

The upcoming version 1.9.6 will fix the issue with switching profiles via URL scheme.
For testing purposes, I use Google DNS-over-TLS (Google-DOT) and AdGuard DNS-over-TLS (AdGuard-DOT) to access an app that contains ads.

When using the URL scheme, the app will launch, switch the profile, and then terminate. However, it will still appear in the iOS app switcher.

I’m also working on integrating App Intents with iOS Shortcuts, which will allow the app’s functions to appear directly in the Shortcuts app. This may eventually enable profile switching without visibly launching the app, although this is still under investigation.
Please check 1.9.7(in review), it will work on iOS Shortcut app without launching app.
Step: Use iOS Shortcut app, search DNS Security/DNS Security Pro.

But ios shortcut still have some issue. When using connect to selected wifi in shortcut. Sometimes can't switch profile, sometimes will work. It will take time to debug. Try to use url scheme is more stable.

Tested DNS Security Pro 1.9.7 (App Build 66, iOS 18.5)

Created two iOS Shortcuts: one that triggers when connecting to the home Wi-Fi, and another that triggers when disconnecting from it. Each shortcut activates its respective DNS DoH profile.

Results with App Intents

• When connecting to the home Wi-Fi, the profile is applied correctly every time, as expected.
• When disconnecting from the home Wi-Fi, the shortcut is triggered and executed. The change is reflected within the DNS Security Pro app. However, the iOS device does not actually use the new profile—or DNS Security Pro at all—but instead reverts to the ISP’s default DNS server. Only after manually opening DNS Security Pro and making any change in the Config section does the app resume handling DNS resolution (instead of using the ISP’s DNS). This issue occurs consistently after the disconnect trigger runs.

Additionally, regardless of whether the trigger is for Wi-Fi connect or disconnect, changes to the DNS profile made via Shortcuts are not immediately visible in the DNS Security Pro app. The updated profile only appears after manually switching between any of the app’s four tabs (Connect, Config, Status, and About).

Results with URL Scheme
This behavior remains unchanged since version 1.9.5. The shortcut trigger launches DNS Security Pro via the URL scheme, but no further action occurs. The previously active profile remains in use with no changes applied. The app also does not close automatically afterward.

Update
The issue when disconnecting from Wi-Fi only occurs if the profile used when connecting to Wi-Fi had "Enable on Wi-Fi" turned ON and "Enable on Cellular" turned OFF. If both "Enable on Wi-Fi" and "Enable on Cellular" were turned ON, the issue does not occur. (The profile triggered upon Wi-Fi disconnection always had both "Enable on Wi-Fi" and "Enable on Cellular" enabled.)

Another related observation:
If the profile for connecting to Wi-Fi has both "Enable on Wi-Fi" and "Enable on Cellular" turned ON, and the profile for disconnecting from Wi-Fi has "Enable on Wi-Fi" ON and "Enable on Cellular" OFF, then upon Wi-Fi disconnection, that profile is still applied for cellular usage—even though it should be disabled. In the DNS Security Pro app, it is marked as disabled, but it remains active nonetheless.

So basically, in order for the profiles to switch properly in the current version, "Enable on Wi-Fi" and "Enable on Cellular" both have to be enabled for both iOS shortcuts (connecting and disconnecting trigger).
