Heart Rate example doesn't seem to be working

Got the hrs and hrs-client exes building locally. Ran hrs on one laptop with bluez-5.41 and hrs-client on another with bluez-5.41, but the client only throws an error "No heart rate service found!"

Have you scanned, paired, and connected from the client side? I suppose this could be more automatic, but I wanted to mimic the behavior of example-gatt-server and example-gatt-client.

I'm not sure what you mean about scanning, pairing, and connecting. Is there something else i have to do before calling stack exec hrs-client? The server side seems to work since I can see the heart rate service in a bluetooth finder app like LightBlue on the iOS app store

Yeah, you need to, in bluetoothctl, type:

power on
agent on
default-agent
scan on
<wait for device to show up>
pair <DEVICE>
connect <DEVICE>

(Some of these steps likely aren't needed, but it's good to go through them anyhow to be sure.)

As I mentioned, these steps could be part of hrs-client itself to some extent, and probably should. If taking these steps manually works and you agree, feel free to close this issue and open another issue for connecting automatically (the library already has all the functionality to make that possible).

still having problems trying to pair with a device in bluetoothctl. this is seeming like a problem with bluetooth on my machine
