$(element).sortable("cancel") doesn't cancel multi-selected sort

I have to cancel multi-sorting in certain situations and I'm trying to cancel the sort with 

`$(element).sortable("cancel") `

It doesn't work as expected. Only one item is getting cancelled.

Please help. I'm stuck.
