ControlR Logo

Hello, friends!

I'm Jared, and I'm building ControlR.

It's a self-hosted, open-source remote access solution that puts you in control.

The Vision

ControlR aims to be remote access done right. Openly and honestly. No paywalls that hide features. No sudden pricing changes. No rug pulls. No gaslighting the community when mistakes are made.

Just a constantly-improving, MIT-licensed tool that you can host on your own infrastructure and customize to your liking.

I've been in the RMM and remote access space for a while, being the original author of Remotely and having worked at companies like Syncro and ImmyBot. I'm confident in my technical ability to make a product that the community will love, and I believe that my genuine desire for ongoing transparency will be a breath of fresh air.

Where We're Headed

Right now, ControlR offers:

  • Full remote desktop control (Windows, macOS, Linux with X11 and Wayland)
  • Cross-platform PowerShell terminal
  • Real-time file management
  • Instant chat with remote users
  • Remote log streaming
  • Everything operates over standard HTTPS/WSS port 443

But this is just the beginning. With community support, ControlR can evolve into so much more:

  • Deeper integrations with platforms
  • Automation and scripting capabilities
  • Scheduled script runs and maintenance
  • Advanced device management and monitoring features
  • Application deployment and patching
  • Whatever the community needs most

The Reality

ControlR is now my full-time work and my only source of income. I'm betting on the idea that if we build something genuinely useful and keep it open and honest, the community will support its development.

Your sponsorship doesn't buy you features that others don't get. Everything stays MIT licensed, everything stays free for everyone. What you do get is:

  • A voice in prioritizing features and bug fixes
  • The satisfaction of supporting a project built on transparency
  • Knowing you're helping keep remote access tools accessible to everyone

This is a long-term commitment. I'm not here to build something, monetize it, and sell out. I'm not interested in investments or acquisitions from private equity, which can lead to a slow decay of the product as short-term gains take priority over long-term customer happiness.

I'm here to build a tool that serves the community and grows with it.

No Strings Attached

As the website says, "remote access, without the strings." I truly mean that. Every feature is available to everyone, forever. Subscribers help shape the roadmap and get the convenience of automated custom builds, but they don't get exclusive features. That's the promise.

If you believe in this vision, if you want to see remote access tools that respect your autonomy and don't lock you in, I'd be honored to have your support.

Thank you for your consideration and interest.

— Jared
