Unfortunately I'm unable to reproduce this issue.

I'm unable to get the output you're describing no matter which SQL dialect I configure the formatter to use. I either get an error or it's formatted correctly.

Are you sure this minimal example alone causes the problem, not some other code around it?

Does the formatting work for some simple SQL? Like, how does it format basic SELECT * FROM tbl?

Perhaps you have some other extensions installed which also format SQL? You can try running the Format Selection (SQL Formatter VSCode) command, which invokes this extension directly.

You can also try to reproduce it in the online playground. If the formatting works there, then the problem is on the VSCode or VSCode extension side rather than on the formatter library side.

I also have mssql, which has it's own formatter, though your extension is selected as default for SQL

ok, I unistalled the new extension and cleared all traces of both new and old (pretty code) extensions. after reinstallation I cannot reproduce the issue as well, so that seemed to fix it.

PS However, I cannot find commaPosition in new extension which is a deal breaker for me.

Yeah that feature was removed a while ago, because it was just severly buggy.

But there's a chance of new implementation of this landing. There's a pull request for this, though it's been stalling for a while now.
