Not working at all

I've installed this and it builds without error, but none of the syntax options I try are interpreted. If I add ``` =500``` at the end of the image name, with or without a space, it just prints the markdown. 

I'm guessing that the lack of updates here (five years now) means that something has changed, either in node or the markdown-it package, and that change has broken something...
