Description
Feature Request
When hovering over a message dot in the ThreadVis visualization, the tooltip currently displays:
From (sender)
Date
Subject
Body preview
It would be very helpful (at least for my workflow) to also display the folder/location where the message is stored.
Use Case
When using ThreadVis to navigate conversations that span multiple folders (e.g., Inbox, Sent, Archive, project-specific folders), it's helpful to know which folder a specific message is located in before clicking on it.
Currently, I can see the folder only:
After clicking on the dot (in the folder pane/header area)
By looking at the folder indicator above the message list
Having the folder displayed directly in the tooltip would allow for a quick overview without leaving the current message or needing to click through the conversation.
Suggested Implementation
Option A: Add a "Folder:" line to the tooltip, similar to the existing From/Date/Subject fields:
From: John Doe
Date: 2025-12-04 10:30
Subject: Re: Project Update
Folder: Work/Projects/ProjectX ← NEW
─────────────────────────────
Message body preview...
Option B: Add a folder "pill" badge in the top right corner of the tooltip.
Option C: Display folder pills for all folders containing messages in the conversation, with the currently hovered message's folder highlighted.
(I should probably stop thinking about possibilities for this wonderful add-on, otherwise the ideas will never end 😄)
Environment
ThreadVis Version: 3.6.12
Thunderbird/Betterbird Version: 140.x ESR
OS: Windows
Additional Context
This would be especially useful for users who:
Use the Card View layout (where the Location column is not available)
Have complex folder structures
Frequently work with conversations spread across multiple accounts/folders
Thank you for maintaining this excellent add-on! 🙏
