This repository hosts the OSeMOSYS Ukraine Whole Energy System Model (WESM).
The model provides a representation of Ukraine’s energy system, including upstream sectors (e.g., primary energy extracted domestically or imported).
Upstream primary energy includes:
- Domestic coal and natural gas
- Imported primary energy carriers
The model also includes power and heat capacity. The power sector comprises:
- Nuclear, gas, and coal power plants
Renewable capacities covered include:
- Wind, solar, hydro, and biomass
Ukraine maintains substantial fossil fuel use and remains partially dependent on imports. Imported fuels and domestically produced energy are distributed across all sectors of the economy. Final energy demand in each sector is mapped to energy service requirements within the model, enabling the identification of a cost-optimal technology mix to meet Ukraine’s needs in the following sectors: The model provides a comprehensive representation of Ukraine’s energy system, covering the following sectors:
- Agriculture
- Commerce
- Industry
- Iron & Steel
- Residential
- Transport (passenger and freight)
⚡ Note: Energy storage technologies are not included in the current version.
