The values obtained in open_issues and closed_issues are cumulative although this hasn't been mentioned.
The attribute created_at in the issues object was different than $sim_day so direct sql queries were not possible, and I've written separate code for evaluating these parameters.
I'll be doing data analysis on these, if that's alright.

Thank you @snehasi. I think your method will work.

In looking at your changes, you undo my latest changes. Can you please update the pull request (or create a new one) in which you add your two new metrics and leave everything else as is?

Just FYI - the issue status is recorded in the field 'stm_status'. The 'stm_' prefix is a shorthand to designate that the field is part of the issue 'statement'. Statement fields occur in Issues, in Orders and in Contracts.
