Emailing Help on Farm

The syasadmins that run Farm are awesome. You can email them at farm-hpc@ucdavis.edu. But they run a number of clusters on campus and have lots to do. Please do not bug them for routine questions ("how do I log into a compute node?"), as those should be covered elsewhere on this wiki, on google, or can be answered by someone else in the lab.

In order to help them help you, include the following any time you email for help:

• you user name and group (Ross-Ibarra lab group)
• which cluster (in our case Farm2 or Agri)
• Screenshot or cut/paste of any error messages and input
• clear explanation of what you are trying to do and what was happening when something went awry

They are usually very quick to respond; if they haven't responded in a day it is usually because there is a bigger fire to put out (e.g. some Physics cluster just exploded), so give them time. If after a few days you get no answer, forward the first message again to help.
