To start out using PA for harvesting you will need to make a wooden planter.

When placed this you can click on the planter to open the interface. To start the planter you will need to put the following items into it:

  • Fuel - Coal, wood, anything that can be used to fuel a furnace
  • Seeds
  • A hoe

The hoe can only be up to the same level as the planter, so you can only put a wooden hoe in a wooden planter, and you can put wooden, stone and iron hoes in a iron planter. Once running the planter will attempt to keep the seeds filled with the items that it harvests. If the internal inventory is full the planter will eject items into the world. It will also automatically put items into any inventory (like a chest) underneath the planter.

The speed at which the planter will break plants will be faster when using a higher level planter and does not depend on the level of the hoe used.

Placement

Planter Position

The planter is placed below the dirt (or anything else that you are planting things on).

Planter Range

In the above picture the first plant would be placed on the green wool (if the wool was dirt/grass or whatever else). Without any range upgrades that is the only plant that would be placed. If you added 1 range upgrade then a plant would be placed on the blue wool. Another upgrade would unlock the red wool and each upgrade would spiral around the machine according to the numbers.

Upgrade Usage

By default the planter will only plant and harvest directly in front of it on the same level but the range can be upgraded by a single block with each additional upgrade that is put into it. You can put as many upgrades as you wish into the planter but the upgrades need to be of the same type as the planter.
