Have you ever run into:

  • Schema differences between development and production?
  • Slow queries in production, but they were fast in development?
  • Bugs that happen in production but do not replicate in development, because only the exact way the data exists in production causes the bug?

At Academia.edu, we have experienced all of the above. Wouldn't it be great if we could just debug everything in production? With database "thin cloning" you (kind of) can!

In this talk, we will cover what "thin cloning" is, how you can use tools like DBLab Engine or Aurora cloning, and how it has transformed development workflows at Academia.edu.
