North American Bat Monitoring Program in Pemberton (2025)

In 2025, bat acoustic monitoring in the Pemberton grid cell was donducted as part of the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat). Four recording units were deployed in the Pemberton Grid Cell (143274). Recordings were analyzed using two automated classifiers (Kaleidoscope and SonoBat), with manual verification currently underway, and all data will be submitted to the North by Northwest Bat Hub for inclusion in the provincial annual report on bat population status. Twelve bat species were detected across the four monitoring locations, with the highest diversity (11 species each) found in the SW and NE quadrants. Three at-risk species were detected at all sites: Hoary Bat and Silver-haired Bat (both recognized as endangered by COSEWIC and expected to be listed under Canada's Species at Risk Act) and Little Brown Myotis (already SARA-listed).
