How it works

Finding email from username

The tool searches for email addresses through multiple methods:

  1. Public commits: Scans all public commits made by the user. If an email is not hidden in the commit metadata, it will be added to the results.

  2. GPG keys: If the user has uploaded GPG keys, the tool extracts email addresses from the GPG key content after base64 decoding.

  3. GitHub API: Retrieves the email address directly from the GitHub user API if it's publicly available.

Finding username from email

The tool uses:

  1. GitHub API search: Queries GitHub's user search API with the email address.

  2. Commit spoofing (Work In Progress): Attempts to create a spoofed commit with the email, then checks the commit history for the associated username. This method is currently under development.
