I really looking for vi based hexeditor many times
But another hexmode is bad.
I found your forgotten repo on github, and...
I get last sources from sourceforge.net
I add small patch for add more usability.
Now, your bvi can use two cursors at hex block and ascii block
Also, I add paramter groupcolors (gc) - it enable highlight grouped columns
And I add parameter columnsgroup (cg) - it set how long highlighted group
